Do you ever feel like the world is against you?
Maybe you recently lost your job, got rejected from the university you were hoping to attend, or missed out on a big contract.
Maybe you feel stuck, with no clear way forward, as if you’re caught between a rock and a hard place.
If you have ever felt like this, you’re not alone. It happens to everyone. Life is tough and unpredictable, and sometimes it feels like nothing is going right. But here’s something important I’ve learned through my experiences as an entrepreneurial leader: the odds are always stacked against you, and that’s just how it is.
We all face challenges, setbacks, and disappointments. But what really matters is how we respond to those tough moments. It’s not the challenges themselves that determine the course of your life, but how you decide to react to them.
It’s easy to look at others and think they have it better or that their lives seem easier. But the truth is, there are people who have been dealt worse cards than you, who have faced more obstacles and harder struggles, yet they are still moving forward, achieving things, and pushing through.
Don’t let someone who’s had more difficulties in life do better than you.
Pain and hardship are often our greatest teachers. They push us out of our comfort zones and make us think differently, act smarter, and work harder.
Pain can be a powerful motivator if you let it. Use your frustration and disappointment as fuel to keep going.
Every time you face a challenge, you have two choices: you can let it defeat you, or you can let it make you stronger.
Life will always have its ups and downs, but remember: the most successful people are the ones who keep going even when things get tough. They don’t give up when they’re faced with obstacles—they push through them. And that’s what makes the difference.
One day in 1990, as Donald Trump tells it, he and model Marla Maples were strolling along New York's Fifth Avenue when they passed a beggar.
"You see that man? Right now he's worth $900 million more than me. ... Right now I'm worth minus $900 million," Trump told Maples.
When asked what his most valuable lesson from that experience was he simply said: “NEVER GIVE UP“.
Three words have never been stronger.
So I tell you today, dear reader, Never give up.
A few weeks ago, I was invited by the Network for Solidarity, Empowerment and Transformation for All - NewSETA, to speak at the 10th Anniversary event, which convened about 400 young leaders across the 10 regions of Cameroon.
During my discourse, I highlighted how the network has been indispensable to my career as a social innovator and leader, by allowing me to gain foundational skills in collaboration.
I was also recognised with the REPAIR Impact Award as oneof the most visibly impactful leaders trained by the program in its 10 years of existence - an honor like no other.
Recognitions like these remind me about the importance of the work we do both at e-Mentor and Softech Ltd, and fuel our resolve to keep propelling these initiatives forward.
