Studies show that on their death beds, people regret what they did not do more than what they did. So why do you still let fear, self-doubt, and procrastination prevent you from taking action and pursuing our dreams?
After a long day of work at Norrsken House Kigali, Rwanda
One common reason why we hesitate to act is that we often think we are not the best persons to do what it is we want to do. We doubt our abilities and think that others are better suited for the job. Another common excuse is that we often think it is not the best time. We believe that we should wait for the right moment, the perfect opportunity, or the ideal conditions. Lastly, we often think we are not skilled enough to do what we want to do. We believe that we need more training, more education, or more experience before we can start.
However, these thoughts are just excuses that hold us back from taking action. The truth is, we are capable of doing more than we give ourselves credit for. We have the potential to learn, grow, and succeed if we put our minds to it. We need to take action and do what we have to do regardless of how we feel. It may be scary, uncomfortable, or challenging, but we need to push through our fears and doubts and take the first step towards our goals.
You will regret if you do not take action now and do what we want to do. We don't want to look back on our lives and wonder "what if?" or "if only." We want to live a life without regrets, a life filled with purpose, passion, and fulfillment. We need to take risks, try new things, and embrace uncertainty. We need to focus on what we want, not on what others think we should do, and pursue it with all our hearts.
In the words of Mark Twain, "Twenty years from now, you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover."
One thing I did not want to regret later is not taking a business trip to Rwanda in my early twenties. As such, I created a plan, bought a plane ticket and left for Rwanda. I had learnt that Rwanda is a business and tech hub for Africa. I was not going to make excuses, and let this opportunity pass me by.
